[English Voiceover] Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah(HA) – Martyrs Day – February 16, 2012
Live recording of Press TV broadcast (with English voiceover) of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah(HA)’s (Secretary General of Hizbullah) speech delivered on the Annual Martyrs Day Commemorations for the Martyred Leaders of the Islamic Resistance – Shaykh Ragheb Harb(A), Sayyed Abbas al-Mousawi(A) and Hajj Emad Mughniyyeh(A).
‘Resistance guards region against Israel’
Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah says the movement will not abandon resistance, which he says protects the whole region from Israeli schemes.
“We pledge … that we will preserve his soul and his era and we will continue on the path of Seyyed Abbas al-Moussawi,” Nasrallah said at a televised speech on Thursday during a ceremony commemorating Hezbollah martyrs, including Moussawi — the former Hezbollah chief who was assassinated in 1992.
“We do not build our alliances based on our moods, we always take into consideration the interests of the [Islamic] Ummah…We understand that Israel is… the tool and army of the Zionist plan in the region. We outline our stance based on this [understanding],” he explained.
Nasrallah said the Zionist scheme poses a threat to the entire region by its continued occupation of Palestine, judaization of al-Quds (Jerusalem) and violation of the rights of the Palestinian people inside and outside the occupied territories.
“And because we believe that this scheme poses a threat to all the components of the region, regardless of their religion, ethnicity or cultural identity and therefore we must confront it and topple it,” he pointed out.
The influential Lebanese leader stressed Hezbollah’s devotion to defending Lebanon against Israeli threats and insisted that “resistance is strong, perseverant and independent,” while on the other hand Israel is losing its strength.
“Israelis regard the present time as the most dangerous era in their history… and they concede they are vulnerable,” he stated.
Nasrallah recalled years of “fruitless” negotiations with Israel and highlighted the significance of resistance as the only feasible way to counter the Zionist plots.
The Hezbollah leader blamed the United States and Israel for the violence in Egypt, Iraq and Syria, where he said “Israel, the US and al-Qaeda pursue common objectives.”
Nasrallah recalled how the West and Arab leaders attempted to persuade Palestinians into negotiations with Israel while rejecting dialogue with the Syrian government, accusing the US and its allies of opposing reforms in Syria and of seeking to ignite a civil war in the country.
The Lebanese leader stressed Hezbollah’s strategic ties with Damascus and expressed optimism that Syria will take major steps toward great reforms in the face of Western media propaganda and foreign-funded unrest in the country.
Nasrallah also addressed the crackdown of popular protests in Bahrain and the international silence on the violent repression, saying the move is aimed at securing Israel’s interests in the region, arguing that an elected government in Bahrain would support the Palestinian nation.

[English Subtitles] Shaykh Hossein Ebrahimi: “The Persian Gulf Will Be Turned into a Graveyard”
An Iranian lawmaker says Iran can paralyze European and American economies by closing the Strait of Hormuz in response to a possible military strike against the country.
Hossein Ebrahimi, who is also deputy head of Iran Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, added that in case of a US military attack, Iran will use all its might to strike Washington’s interests across the world.
“One of Iran’s definitive answers to a military attack is to close the Strait of Hormuz,” Fars News Agency quoted him as saying on Thursday.
Ebrahimi also stated the Iranian armed forces are planning a military exercise in which they will close the Strait of Hormuz as a serious warning to the US.
“Iran’s warning on closing the Strait of Hormuz is very serious and Americans must know that playing with Iran will cost them dearly,” he added.
On Wednesday, December 14, head of Majlis Internal Security Subcommittee, announced that if the enemies tried to carry out their threats against the Islamic Republic, the country will use all its capacities including the Strait of Hormuz to defend itself.
Parviz Sorouri emphasized that if the Strait of Hormuz becomes unsafe for Iran, the country may close the Strait in line with international regulations.
Pointing to recent military threats against Iran, he added that stability should exist for all countries because the Islamic Republic does not believe in the theory of stability for one country and instability for all others.
The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Mohammad-Ali Jafari said on July 4 that the option of closing the Strait of Hormuz remains on the table and that there is a plan to close the strategic strait in the case of a military strike against Iran.
The Iranian commander also noted Iran is after plans to fully exploit its defensive potential in the high seas.
The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman, which connects the Persian Gulf with the Sea of Oman.
Iran has repeatedly warned it would not hesitate to take all crucial measures, one of which is to close the strategic oil passage, in the event of a military attack on the country.
