French far-right party leader Marine Le Pen has launched her election bid with the pledge of protecting France from quote Islamic fundamentalism, globalisation, and the EU.
An activist and political commentator believes there is a chance that Le Pen becomes the French president given the rising tide of “Islamophobia, xenophobia, and pseudo-patriotism” which exists around the world at the moment.
“This is the back of what resulted in the Brexit vote, it is pretty much what led to [US President] Donald Trump winning and I believe that Le Pen is also banking on this as well as other groups within Europe and it is quite a worrying trend because it has got a large portion of its base, of its ideology, stemmed inside Islamophobia, inside xenophobia,” Shabbir Hassanally told Press TV in an interview1 on Monday.
He also noted the people in the West are easily “swayed and scared”, and their understanding is flawed due to what the mainstream media say.
The activist also opined that Le Pen is preying on nationalist and patriotic sentiments, arguing that she is using something very similar to Donald Trump’s slogan of “Make America Great Again”.
Hoverer, he said, these people are essentially “in cahoots with the Zionists”, and they are creating a situation which is very reminiscent of the 1930s and the rise of the ruler of Nazi Germany Adolf Hitler.
Hassanally further expressed concern that the people of the West are going “to get taken in” and that there is going to be an attempt of “a veiled attack” against Islam which has become the “new boogeyman”.
