Millions of Muslims from around the world gather in the holy city of Mecca for the Hajj pilgrimage as the season for the huge religious ceremony arrives. This year’s Hajj rituals have once again highlighted the need for unity in the Islamic world which is suffering from a years-long discord which has cost it thousands and thousands of lives and deep division between Muslim countries. A considerable part of this year’s Hajj message of Iran’s leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has been dedicated to the issue of unity and solidarity among Muslims. Ayatollah Khamenei says Muslim countries have heavy responsibilities which include creating unity and preventing ethnic and religious conflicts across the Islamic world1.
